The
Brittany Ferries car ferry from Plymouth to Saint Malo is a new service set to commence
mid-November 2011 and run through the winter until mid-March. It is hoped the service
will prove successful and will continue through future winter months.
Sailings leave Plymouth on Tuesdays at 22.00 (except for a couple of sailings in
February), arriving in St Malo in time for breakfast on board. The return journey
is on a Friday mid-morning, getting in to Plymouth around tea-time.
Crossings are operated by the MV Bretagne and the MV Armorique, both modern

with all the facilities necessary for a relaxed and comfortable journey. Brittany
Ferries prides itself on the quality of its on-board food, and there is a choice
of cafés and restaurants on both vessels. You can take in a recent movie in the
cinema or simply relax in one of the lounges. There is a choice of cabins, some
of them with double beds and TV.
This new service offers the opportunity to enjoy one of France's most interesting
port cities at a time when it is relatively quiet, with few tourists. A particular
benefit is that Saint Malo is close to the famous Mont St Michel, one of Europe's
must-see sttractions.

season, but from March to November will be relatively empty for you to admire.
In addition St Malo is a fascinating town in itself, with an almost completely preserved
old town within spectacular city walls. The whole of Eastern Brittany and Western
Normandy is just on the doorstep, with rugged coastline, ancient villages and wooded
hills.
Plymouth is easily reached along the A38 Devon Expressway which is effectively a
continuation of the M5 motorway. The journey takes around 4 and a half hours from
central London or about 3 and a half from Birmingham. And if you need to stay overnight
in Plymouth the city rewards with its spectacular position at the head of Plymouth
Sound, its high quality hotels and shops and plenty of good restaurants.
