DFDS Ferries Dover Calais with LD Lines
Following the demise of the ferry operator Sea France, DFDS and LD Lines have
got together to jointly operate the Dover Calais car ferry service. Initially the
service commenced on February 17th 2012 using LD Lines ship Norman Spirit. On April
27th 2012 she will be joined by the MV Barfleur on the Dover Calais English Channel
crossing.
The
Barfleur has been chartered from Brittany Ferries. The vessel previously served
their route from Poole to Cherbourg. She was built in 1992 and has capacity for
1212 passengers and 550 cars.
These two ships will offer 22 daily departures from Dover, making the DFDS car
ferry service a major operator on this route along with P&O Ferries.
Dover port
information
Calais
has long been the port of choice for UK motorists setting off to France and places
beyond. The Calais ferry terminal is directly connected to the French motorway system,
allowing you to bypass Calais. Yet Calais has a variety of accommodation at reasonable
prices, and a pleasant beach.
DFDS and LD Lines offer great rates across the board.
Check out DFDS's prices and see how they compare. They are often the cheapest
ships using the Dover crossings. If you're looking for a bargain this could
be the crossing for you!
The new vessels deployed on the ferry to France route have a wide range of services
available on board, some of these are: play-station lounge, children's play
area, satellite TV, executive suites and many more.
Check-in is no later than 45 minutes before departure, and not before two hours
before departure.

Dover is easy to reach, just 50 minutes drive from the
M25. Coming across the Dartford Crossing bridge take junction 3 for the
M20. Coming along the M25 from the West take the M26 then the M20. Simply
follow the signs for Dover and the Eastern Docks. If you have tickets (or
a booking reference) just follow the terminal signs for DFDS Calais. You
can buy a ticket at the terminal building as you enter the Eastern Docks.
The alternative route from the Dartford Crossing is via the A2/M2, leaving
the M25 at junction 2. This takes perhaps an extra 15 minutes compared to
travelling down the M20, but is useful if there are roadworks or delays
on the M20.
