DFDS Seaways Ferry crossings, DFDS timetables, online car ferry booking, prices, ferry tickets and fares for your Drive-Alive motoring holiday in Europe. The DFDS fleet of modern ferries offers a comfortable and convenient way to cross the North Sea to northern Europe and Scandinavia. There is a direct sailing from Newcastle to IJmuiden near Amsterdam and from Harwich sail straight to Esbjerg in Denmark. From Esbjerg drive to Copenhagen and catch the ferry to Oslo to enjoy the open roads of Norway. Minimum check in on all routes is 1 hour 30 minutes. Anyone living in Northern England or Scotland should consider the Newcastle to Amsterdam crossing as an excellent alternative to the long drive south to the Channel Ports. You arrive in Europe refreshed after a good night's sleep. The ferry port near Amsterdam is just a few kilometres from the motorway network taking you south or east into Europe.
Then there are
the great cities of Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Frankfurt and Cologne with their
architecture and sophistication, and small towns which retain their historic
character as some of the major centres of European culture.
Mile after mile of spectacular
fjords and mountains plunging to the sea, smooth dirt roads up in the north
where you can discover why the Scandinavians do so well at rally driving. Enjoy
the wonderful integrated public transport system of cosmopolitan Oslo. Chill out
in the myriad friendly bars of Copenhagen before setting off across the new
bridge linking Denmark to Sweden to explore the waterways of sophisticated
Stockholm. The old Fjord Line route (taken over by DFDS) from Newcastle to Bergen, Stavanger and Haugesund in Sweden, was withdrawn in September 2008. The Cuxhaven (near Hamburg) route has been withdrawn, as has Newcastle to Kristiansand and Fredrikshaven. DFDS no longer operate ferries from the UK to Sweden or Norway and currently, neither does any other operator. To get to Norway take the DFDS ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg then drive to Copenhagen for the DFDS ferry to Oslo.
Harwich - Esbjerg: Departs from
both ports early evening on various days, depending on the time of year. Arrival
around mid-day next day. Copenhagen - Oslo: Daily overnight crossing
in each direction leaving early evening arriving next morning
