The
DFDS fleet of modern ferries offers a comfortable and convenient way to
cross the North Sea to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. There is a direct sailing
from Newcastle to Ijmuiden near Amsterdam. Minimum check in is 1 hour 30
minutes. Pets are not accepted.
Newcastle - Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) : Leaves Newcastle daily at 5pm,
arriving 9.30 next morning. Returns at 6pm daily, arriving Newcastle 9am next
morning.

Anyone living in Northern England or Scotland should consider the Newcastle
to Amsterdam crossing as an excellent alternative to the long drive south to the
Channel Ports. You arrive in Europe refreshed after a good night's sleep. The
ferry port near Amsterdam is just a few kilometres from the motorway network
taking you onwards into Europe.
Or you might want to spend some time exploring the fabulous cultural and
artistic highlights of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is a beautiful city with its
canals and elegant old buildings, and boasts some of Europe's great museums and
art galleries.
Just a short drive down the coast from the ferry terminal at
Ijmuiden is the Dutch capital, The Hague, and also nearby is the town of Delft,
famous for its ceramics. Rotterdam is a lively modern city with some spectacular
architecture, great nightlife, and more than its share of museums and galleries.

No ferry company is currently sailing to a port in Germany, yet Germany is
becoming more and more popular as a holiday destination. From the clean sandy
beaches of the North Sea and Baltic coasts, through the great forests and
mountains, to the balmy shores of Lake Constance and skiing in the Bavarian
Alps, Germany has something for everyone, at remarkably good value.
Then there
are the great cities of Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Frankfurt and Cologne with
their architecture and sophistication, and small towns which retain their
historic character as some of the major centres of European culture. So why not
sail to Amsterdam with DFDS, from where it is only a couple of hours' drive to
the German border.
The old Fjord Line route (taken over by DFDS) from Newcastle to Bergen,
Stavanger and Haugesund in Sweden, was withdrawn in September 2008. The Cuxhaven
(near Hamburg) route has been withdrawn, as has Newcastle to Kristiansand and
Fredrikshaven. DFDS no longer operate ferries from the UK to Sweden or
Norway and currently, neither does any other operator.
Harwich - Esbjerg : Departs from both ports early evening on various
days, depending on the time of year. Arrival around mid-day next day.
Harwich - Cuxhaven near Hamburg: This route has now been withdrawn.
Newcastle - Kristiansand : This route has been withdrawn.
Newcastle - Bergen, Stavanger and Haugesund : DFDS ceased operating
the service from Newcastle to Norway (Bergen, Stavanger, Haugesund) on September
1st 2008.
