The conventional ferry crossings take 1 hour 45 minutes quayside to
quayside.
LD Lines ferry service from Dover to Boulogne is operated by their ships the "Norman
Spirit" and "Norman Trader". Between them the two ships operate up
to 14 return crossings daily.
Both ships were launched in 2006, so enjoy the latest in facilities and technology
to ensure an enjoyable crossing. These superb new ships are capable of speeds of
up to 22 knots (about 25 mph), and their ultra-modern stabilizers mean optimum comfort
whatever the weather.
There's plenty of room on board for relaxation, including a magnificent panoramic
lounge. The elegant surroundings of the bar and restaurant are more in keeping with
a cruise ship than a ferry. Use the trip for some shopping in the boutique and leave
the little ones in the children's play-areas.
The ships sail from Dover's Eastern Docks, right next to the end
of the A2 and A20, so easy to find and well signposted. If you already have
tickets you just follow the signs to the LD Lines' check-in kiosks.
Tickets on arrival can be purchased in the ticket office on the right as
you enter the port area. Dover is about an hour's drive down the M20/A20
from its junction with the M25.
Boulogne is one of the more attractive channel ports, with an interesting
old town at the top of the hill. The A16 to Paris and Rouen (or Calais and
Lille in the other direction) passes by the town, while there is a dual
carriageway connection to the A26 for drivers heading east towards Reims
or Aachen. |
