Going skiing? Take the High Speed snow
train direct to the Alps. Book early - this is a popular service! |
 |
- Eurostar high speed snow trains run direct from London to the French Alps
on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, from 19 December 2009
to 17April 2010 (last service back to the UK).
- Direct trains returning to London leave the French Alps on Saturday
mornings and Saturday afternoons, from Bourg St Maurice and Moutiers only.
- You can still travel to the French Alps at other times of the year, with
a simple change in Paris. Just continue with the normal booking process and
you'll see the options.
The Eurostar snow train is a great way to get to the slopes. You don't need to
change trains, and there are no surcharges for your ski equipment. Check in is quick
and easy, but please arrive at the station no later than 60 minutes before departure.
If you can get away on Friday afternoon you can enjoy a good night's sleep and
arrive on Saturday morning ready for a full day's skiing. And if you return on the
Saturday afternoon train you can enjoy eight days on the slopes! And you don't need
to worry about rowdy behaviour on board, as Eurostar have strict limits on the amount
of alcohol that can be taken on the snow train.
The alternative to the Friday night departure is the Saturday morning snow train.
The benefit of this train is that you can enjoy the wonderful scenery, especially
as you approach the Alps. And you should be in your resort in good time for an evening
meal and a warming glass of gluwein.
The ski trains feature a bar-buffet serving decent snacks which is open for the
whole journey on the day train, and on the night train until midnight and again
for breakfast from 5 am. In addition if you upgrade to Leisure Select you get served
an evening meal with wine, then breakfast, on the overnight journey, or lunch with
wine on the day train, all direct to your seat.
The trains go direct to the valley resorts of Moûtiers, Aime-la-Plagne or Bourg-St-Maurice,
from where coaches, taxis or hire cars are available to take you to your ski resort.
Among the popular French ski resorts served are Val Thorens, Courchevel, La Plagne,
Meribel, Tignes, Val d'Isere, Les Menuires and Les Arcs. The local bus operator
is Altibus. Travellers can contact Altibus on +33 4 79 68 32 96 or by visiting
www.altibus.com, to book transfers
from any of our three stations. Altibus can answer calls in English and will be
able to advise on transfers and schedules.
In addition to all this convenience Eurostar claims that all its journeys are
carbon neutral, so you can ski with an easy conscience.
